Projects to finish & to begin.
Jan 15, 2013 || 12:05 AM

I need a place where to post all my works in progress and all my little creative projects. I keep forgetting everything I have planned to do and what I have already begun. A blog would be brilliant in showcasing all my crazy creative ventures.

I have recently become unemployed and have all the time I never had before in between all the job hunting. So I've been planning to work on some of my WIPs and being true to my impatient nature, begin some new projects as well.

Isla's Dolce Quilt

I began this quilt for my daughter Isla at least two years ago. It is a modified version of Tanya Whelan's Dolce quilt. The modifications came to be, because I wanted the quilt to be longer and slightly wider as well and because I miscalculated a lot of stuff and had to improvise. Also the colors are quite different even though I have used some of the Dolce fabrics (which I adore!). I spent many lessons at school secretly piecing this quilt together, until it became too big to piece it in secret.

The quilt back is still slightly in progress and then there is the whole assembling part that I'm not too familiar with. I have never before quilted such a large piece, so this will be an experience for me. If I have materials or my financial situation allows me to buy what is missing, I'll be finishing this by the end of February.

I'm planning on doing a pillow or two with the leftover fabrics. There's quite a pile.

Wedding Gift Quilt

I have no other images than the pile of newly arrived fabrics, but they have all been washed, ironed and mostly cut. I imagine I will need to probably cut a little more, because this is such a huuuge quilt that I keep losing my vision and I simply can't make my brains to see which pieces go with which. So I'm basically piecing it together with one row after another and seeing how it comes to be.

It is a triangle/hexagon quilt in green, brown and white. It is for a king-sized bed and I di not have batting for it yet. I will probably ask my mother to bring a big roll for me when she next comes to visit.

Those are my major WIPs. There are also childrens' clothing and bags and other stuff stored away, plus a million and one knitting projects, but I'll dig them up as I get things done. I'm hoping to finish maybe one bigger project every 2 months or three smaller ones. January is reserved for decluttering and re-organizing my sewing table and crafts supplies.

Planned Projects

That up there is a picture of our tiny/mini toilette wallpaper. The room is indeed so small that you can either stand or sit on the loo. Curling my hair in there is rather an adventure, but as it is still the only room in the house with a mirror, that is where the curling has to happen.

The reason why I posted a picture of our wallpaper is because this room has two windows. The smaller one that points outside is basically hidden behind a lilac tree, but the other one is in the door and it needs a curtain of sorts, so that when you are sitting in their doing your business, no one can come and check you out through the window. I have been thinking that I would use some old white piece of fabric to do the curtain and embroider the hem with a stripe of motifs borrowed from the wallpaper. Maybe just the small flowers and the red around them or even the larger motif as well.

Then there is this one amazing chair I discovered hiding in our attic. It used to have patchwork leather seat and neck cushion, made from my father's old leather jacket. That had gone all dry and horrible in the attic, so basically what the chair needs besides the obvious new paint, is a new seat cushion and neck cushion.

Last summer I already removed some of the old flaky paint. Like you can see, the chair has been white and green, but it has also been kind of reddish wood originally. I haven't decided if I'll paint it or stain it to resemble the original color. It might be impossible to get all the paint out. If I need to paint it, it'll be white or cream. What comes to the color of the cushions, I'd like to go with something bold. That means the chair cant go to our bedroom as I had planned, because bedroom needs toned down neutral colors and white. That's what you get with a darkish blue bold wallpaper. If I could place it in the mudroom, the cushions could be violet and if it would go to the home office, I could go with coral or orange, which is the option I'm kind of loving right now.
